Hijab and Repentance are a person’s decision, not a matter of public discussion

Addressing the ongoing trend regarding the actress Hala Shiha, after announcing her repentance and quitting the acting career, from a religious perspective, what does Islam state about Hijab and its requirement.

Seif Ragab Qazamel, Former Dean of Sharea Faculty in Tanta University said “Hijab is a requirement, but we shouldn't force anyone to wear it. She knows that it is a requirement, yet it is her decision to wear it or not. We all try to stay on track religiously, and it is possible and normal for a person to lose track for a while but what matters is when they get back on track.”

“We shouldn't give as much attention to details as someone taking off their Hijab or wearing it again, it is their decision and their personal life, we shouldn't have it as a topic of conversation,” added Qazamel.

Since the religion is clear about the issue and it is known that it is a requirement, no second thought should be given to anyone who obeys or disobeys the requirement, concluded Qazamel.

Sheikh Abdel Hamid Al-Atrash, Former Head of Fatwa Committee in Al-Azhar said “Repentance is an open door for all humans until the end of their time, yet it is advised to not return back to wrongdoings and to stick to the right track once the person reaches it.”
