In 10 points.. top foreign minister’s messages in the press conference after UNSC session on GERD

Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Sameh Shoukry, held a press conference after the session of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) that took place on Thursday in New York to discuss the latest developments on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) at the request of Egypt and Sudan.

Shoukry posed powerful messages in the conference held after the UNSC’s session. “Trendify” lists the top messages posed by the Egyptian minister of Foreign affairs as follows:

  • The next step with regard to the dam would depend on the decision of the Security Council in accordance with its responsibilities

  • Call for the Security Council to work on the issue of the Renaissance Dam with a preventive responsibility

  • Egypt must protect the rights of its people. This is necessary for any government to take into consideration

  • Egypt had shown goodwill and flexibility and will continue to do so. Our presence at the Security Council proves that

  • Call for respect of international laws in the matter of filling and operating the Renaissance Dam

  • Ethiopia must respect the UN Charter

  • Egypt is committed to the protection of the livelihoods of Egyptians

  • Some countries have to justify their silence about dealing with the Renaissance Dam issue

  • Ethiopia is adopting baseless grievances

  • Demand of protection of Egypt's water security and the rights of its people

The UNSC meeting came three days after Ethiopia had announced beginning of the second filling of the dam in a unilateral action, that represented a move against which consequences Egypt and Sudan had been warning for months.
