Britain added seven countries, including Egypt and Sri Lanka, to its "red list" of destinations that require hotel quarantine on return to England on Thursday, in a review that also saw Portugal move from "green" to "amber".
Aviation safety inspector at Cairo International airport, Ahmed Mokhtar told “Trendify”, “this is completely unrelated to Egypt itself,” clarifying that these changes are for the British citizens currently in Egypt and plan to return to the UK, requiring them to perform specific safety procedures before entering the country.
Mokhtar added that these procedures are implemented by the UK’s private medical centres in Egypt, as for the Egyptian airport or any airline, their role is to ensure the implementation of these procedures before the passengers board any plane, such as a PCR test. However, those in charge of the process are the authorities in the British airport, such as Heathrow airport.
According to the official UK government website, if you’re travelling to England, what you need to do depends on where you have been in the 10 days before you arrive. If you have been in a country or territory on the:
green list - you must take a coronavirus (COVID-19) test on or before day 2
amber list - you must quarantine in the place you’re staying and take 2 COVID-19 tests
red list - you must quarantine in a hotel and take 2 COVID-19 tests
You cannot currently enter the UK if you’ve been in or through a country on the red list unless you’re British, Irish or you have the right to live in the UK.
All changes to the lists will come into effect on June 8, the UK government said.
