Ashraf Hanafi: El Gouna Squash titles were expected to be Egyptian, El Shorbagy aims to world no. 1

Ashraf Hanafi - Former Squash player

The Egyptians Mohamed ElShorbagy and Nour El Sherbini managed to capture 2021 El Gouna International Squash titles yesterday after El Sherbibi defeated World No.4 Paul Coll and El Shorbagy defeated World No.2 Nouran Gohar in the open championship, whereby the Egyptian champions won PSA World Tour Platinum event, that took place for the first time at the El Gouna Conference and Culture Center.

Captain Ashraf Hanafi, former squash player and CEO at Nolet Squash and Tennisclub, said it was expected that the championship become an Egyptian one, since the Egyptian players top the world in Squash where the top 10 world players include at least 5 Egyptians from both males and females.

Hanafi: It was expected that El Sherbini will become the champion where she has the ability to deal with the finals’ stress

Hanafi added in statements to “Trendify” that despite the fact that the final match between El Sherbini and Gohar wasn’t an easy one between the world no.1 and world no.2 female squash players, it was expected that El Sherbini will become the champion where she has the ability to deal with the finals’ stress and overcome any injury to show her best while playing.

Although Mohamed El Shorbagy hasn’t played any tournaments in Egypt for a long time, he is still world no.2 in Squash who played so well that Paul Coll didn’t have a chance to win the final match.

Hanafi: El Shorbagy told us that he is looking forward to making it to the world no.1 in Squash for males

“El Shorbagy told us that he is looking forward to making it to the world no.1 in Squash for males”, Hanafi added.

As per what the Egyptian Squash Champions are currently preparing for, Hanafi said that in about three weeks the world’s leading squash players will compete in the The 2020-21 CIB PSA World Tour Finals, organized by Wadi Degla, and is to take place at Cairo’s Mall of Arabia.
