Lamb meat would always come on top of Eid Al-Adha meals in Egypt and neighboring countries. However, recipes and plates including lamb meat would vary from one country to another and undergo numerous modifications annually. Although “Fattah” is considered the main Egyptian Eid plate, additions and changes are usually made to its recipe as an innovation ritual that makes it to the social media top trending topics.
Chef Yousry Khamis said that most Egyptians are open to innovation and change to an extent, especially in platters they got used to by time. Thus, new trends in Eid meals would usually involve new recipes to the traditional dishes not intrusion of whole new dishes to the feast’s meals.
New Fattah Recipe
“This year I changed few things in Fattah recipe where I added spices to rice, blended it with onions, minced meat and marinade”, Khamis added. Also, replacement of the Egyptian bread with toasted Shami bread added a sense of innovation to the traditional plate.
Khamis mentioned to “Trendify” that even the toppings sauce was changed this year where yoghurt salad substituted the traditional red tomato sauce.
Modifications to Tarb Dish
Tarb dish used to be served in small pieces, new modifications were made to it this year, according to Khamis. “This year I made tarb through grilling large lamb fat layer, putting meat inside it then chopping into slices and continued cooking it”.
