Noor Abdulmajeed’s “Aneen Al-Duma” mystery, crime pour into moral of self-worth realisation

Continuing our CIBF coverage, “Trendify” spoke with Noor Abdulmajeed, the Saudi-Egyptian novelist, who will have her novel “Aneen Al-Duma”, published in the Cairo International Book Fair by Al-Masriah Al-Lubnaniya Bookstore publishing house.

“There is a worldwide transfer from paperback books to audio books, as an adaptation to our fast-paced world. Audiobooks are easier to enjoy, since no one has the time to sit down and read a book anymore, they could listen to it while cooking, exercising, or even while working,” said Abdulmajeed.

It was first published as an audio series in cooperation with Story Tell company, however, “a majority of people prefer reading paper books instead of just listening to audiobooks, and I am one of them, they enjoy the feeling of holding paper in their hands, therefore, in collaboration with Al-Masriah Al-Lubnaniya, we turned it into a printed version to be available in the CIBF,” said Abdulmajeed.

“It is a novel with a distinguished soul, as it contains a theme of mystery where it begins with a crime which leads to more crimes. And by the end we reach a realisation that the only way out of an obstacle is self-recognition and realisation of one’s worth,” Abdulmajeed explained regarding the theme of the novel.

The moral of the story lies within the fact that ‘trying to uncover truths only leads to more mysteries’, and that people are keen on discovering what’s hidden and have a need to feed their sense of curiosity.

“I do not believe in having expectations for readers’ opinions of one’s work, we must wait for a book to take its time in the market,” clarified Abdulmajeed and added that her books are “part of her, my children”, and she would like to see her child bloom and receive its deserved recognition, to be able to think of her next step in her writing career.
